NaviNet Automated QA / Testers

Salary £Excellent + Package

After placing the Site Lead for NaviNet I am now introducing them to top-level QA Engineers and Testers with strong automation skills. With NaviNet you will work in a highly accountable development environment, split into small feature teams, heavily influence the options for ‘building in’ testability during design and development phases, contribute to the implementation of automation principles with the QA team, plus define best practices and support the adoption of technologies and tools that drive efficiencies throughout the team. You will also have the chance to identify new QA tools and work closely with other engineers to implement them, whilst mentoring junior members of the team and educating the department through knowledge sharing sessions.

NaviNet are one of Northern Irelands newest multi-million pound technology investments from the US healthcare market to work on key greenfield developments and value added services working out of their brand new 2010 launched Belfast base which is home to the European development team. This will a be a cutting edge Lean development environment with best-in-class engineering processes with all team members having the drive and energy to challenge things which are clearly wrong. Whilst this team numbers only a handful right now, it will grow to twenty five by the end of this year and ultimately sixty over three years. Offers can be turned around within two weeks if needed.

The engineering team in Belfast will be working on a web portal, software components and services on the .NET platform with SQL Server. This is made available to different stakeholders in the healthcare sector in the US – patients, health plan providers, and doctors. NaviNet utilize a variety of transport and wire protocols to integrate capabilities within their SOA based topology and across to customers’ systems. This drive for quality is key to Belfast – nothing will leave the door for the States unless it works. I’m looking for people with energy, who take pride in their work, as once a piece of work leaves a feature team once it leaves them it is in production. Since they operate in the healthcare industry, they can’t have even minor problems. We need everyone to stand over everything they do.

To suceed in the role you must have automation skills working with automated frameworks, not just record and playback, but actually configuring and customising and building the automation framework, whilst also writing test plans and cases covering functional and non-functional testing. You’ll be able to show previous experience working on projects where you understand the nature of the data you are dealing with – i.e. you are not just a black box tester. With the QA roles at NaviNet you must be able to look at a database schema, perhaps use wireshark on the SQL, going back and forth on results sets, be able to parse things, ditto with SOAP messages.

Love problem solving? Perfect – in this role you’ll spend time working with developers to identify source of the problems. You won’t just simply write a test case and execute. Ideally you will have led a test team or been at the forefront of a test team too. The requirements come into Belfast with minimal features, the idea being this is the minimum product they want to go to market with, then they deliver it at the highest possible quality as rapidly as possible, come back and iteratively build on it. As a QA Engineer with NaviNet, you will be sitting down with developers during analysis, as the developers are designing their software solutions, the QA will be designing test cases, and as the developers are implementing their unit testing, the QA will be writing test scripts. So the QA team will move across the software life cycle and the TDD with the team as a whole.

I stress that the QA function is embedded into the feature teams with developers. This is an excellent and innovative way to work – each team will get set of requirements from US, the team does the analysis, the design, implementation, test, and deployment. From QAs perspective, they are responsible for making sure the tracaibility from the user stories feeds back into the requirements, the design does everything in the user stories, the implementation meets everything in the design. So it will be a highly collaborative and problem-solving approach with developers. In the same way we want to give .NET developers a technial career with NaviNet, we need people who are passionate about QA. For the QA engineers I’m looking for top candidates who have significant previous achivements testing multi-tier Web applications in distributed environments with Microsoft Windows Server, Web and applications servers, and SQL Server topology. Another benefit would be some sort of scripting and any dabblings in C# or Java coding, or using Groovy is handy too. If you’ve used FitNesse or Selenium its an advantage, but not mandatory – they are relatively new – so extensive use of other automation frameworks like Rational or QTP etc is ok. Project testing work in the areas of reliability, security and performance is of particular interest.
